Objectives

In order to be the most coherent with its resources, and to respond to the interests of its patients, without confronting the Aventis management, the Nereïs project has the following principal objectives:- to safeguard French and European research of high quality in the field of anti-infectious diseases, with a therapeutic independence in this field, which is no longer undertaken on this scale in the EEC – the creation of a structure of development of medicines, open to private or public research – the creation of a centre of training for the medical professionals. The whole group, contributing to the construction of a pharmapole, capable of becoming an attractive centre for therapeutic innovation. This takes into account ethical concepts and not only based on, or subject to, the market influences. The entity created will have as mission to perform specific research in the fields of anti bacterial and of anti-fungal drug development, closely examining the possibility of also entering the anti-parasitic field. In addition, in collaboration with, and with the support of, different institutes or public or semi-public organisations, a research unit studying less common illnesses and / or unstudied illnesses could be considered. In the context of specifically- targetted agreements this internal research should largely rely on elements coming from the academic research (targets, tools, technologies).
